Al Stam is the founder of Stam Fiduciary and a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary. His professional career began in 2001, followed by graduate legal research at KazGUU University before he pursued his Master of Laws degree in International Commercial Law at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, in 2003. Al has aggregated twenty years of international legal work — spanning mergers and acquisitions, banking, finance, taxation, and auditing across Europe and Central Asia — bringing a foundation most California fiduciaries simply don't have: fluency in the cross-border tax, currency, and reporting issues that arise when an estate, a beneficiary, or a business interest crosses a national line.
Al also holds a Master of Laws degree from UCLA School of Law with a focus on Business Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Securities Regulation, and is fluent in English and Russian — a combination that has made him a trusted resource for CIS-region families, as well as clients in Europe, navigating US estate administration for the first time.
Throughout his career, Al managed complex legal affairs in international corporate transactions at foreign law firms and private equity organizations, developing deep expertise in mergers and acquisitions, banking, finance, and intellectual property. His work at foreign law firms included the formation and ongoing administration of offshore holding structures — a background that gives him firsthand fluency in how shell entities are formed, governed, and unwound, and in the beneficial-ownership and compliance questions that surface when such structures turn up inside a trust or estate. At KPMG, he further refined his skills in auditing, risk management, and regulatory compliance — experience that, together, directly informs his approach to trust administration, estate settlement, and family office management for clients with sophisticated or multi-jurisdictional holdings. His legal training informs how he administers trusts and estates with precision and foresight, and he works alongside estate planning and tax counsel — including local-language counsel abroad, where a matter calls for it — rather than in place of them.
As a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary, Al is committed to acting in the best interests of those he serves, upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and professional responsibility.
Outside of work, Al is an avid outdoorman who enjoys skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, trail running, paddleboarding, and open water swimming. He lives with his beautiful wife and three daughters in San Diego, California.
Al believes that a full life outside the office makes him a better fiduciary — more patient, more present, and more attuned to what truly matters to the families he serves. He lives with his beautiful wife and three daughters in San Diego, California.
"My legal career taught me how to navigate complex matters, guide people to resolution with clarity and efficiency, and step in to execute and complete matters on their behalf. As a fiduciary, I bring those principles to the service of families who need trusted guidance."— Al Stam, LL.M. · Stam Fiduciary
